Scopepin vs Pastel

Pastel is a review tool for websites, images, PDFs and videos: you open the live site in a Pastel canvas from a link, and people leave comments on it. Scopepin does the client feedback part too, and adds what it's for: it flags requests outside the agreed scope and turns them into priced change requests your client approves.

Why agencies pick Scopepin

It notices scope creep for you

Each request is checked against the scope you agreed. The ones outside it are flagged privately, with the reason, as they arrive.

Extra work turns into an invoice line

Bundle out-of-scope requests into a priced change request. Your client approves each item from an email link, with no login.

You see the page they saw

A snapshot of the page, rebuilt at their screen size with the pin on the element, plus console lines, errors and failed requests.

When Pastel is the better pick

  • Reviewing images, PDFs and videos as well as websites.
  • Getting comments without adding anything to the site: Pastel opens the page from its own link.
  • Feedback deadlines and pausing comments between rounds, which Pastel includes on every plan.
  • Sending comments to Monday or through Zapier today.

If you build sites for clients on a fixed scope and the small extras are where your margin goes, that's what Scopepin is for.

Questions

Is a Pastel canvas the same as a Scopepin project?

Close. A Pastel canvas holds one website, and the plans count canvases. A Scopepin project covers one client's site too, and the plans count active projects, with unlimited pages, clients and comments.

Do I need to add anything to the site?

For Scopepin, yes: one script line, on staging, live or both. Clients then comment on the real site, and every comment carries the page, browser and screen size. Pastel opens the site through its own link instead, so nothing goes on the site.

Is Scopepin cheaper than Pastel?

Scopepin Starter is $19 a month for 3 projects, against Pastel Pro at $35 a month for 3 canvases. Scopepin Agency is $79 a month for unlimited projects and 10 people, flat; Pastel Team starts at $119 a month for 5 users, with extra users at $24 each.

Do my clients see anything different from Pastel?

They click a Feedback button on the site, pin a comment and type their name and email the first time, much like Pastel. They never see a scope flag or a price unless you send them a change request.
