How to add a feedback widget to a HubSpot site

Paste one line into your HubSpot site and publish. Your client clicks Feedback on the page, pins a comment where the problem is, and it lands in your dashboard with a snapshot of what they saw. About five minutes.

1Create a project for the client's site

In Scopepin, add a project and list every address the site runs on: the hs-sites.com address and the live domain.

The script only accepts feedback from the addresses you list, so a copy of the line pasted on another site does nothing. List client.com and it covers www.client.com too. The project page then shows your install line, with the project's own key in place of sp_….

2Paste the line into HubSpot

In HubSpot, open Settings, then Content, then Pages, choose the domain, paste the line into Site Footer HTML, and save.

If the domain uses the default settings, choose to override them for that domain first. For one page only, use the page's own Footer HTML under Settings, Advanced, in the page editor.

<script src="https://scopepin.com/w/v1.js" data-key="sp_…" async></script>

3Publish, then test it yourself

Publish the site, open it, click Feedback and pin a comment. It appears in your dashboard with a snapshot of the page.

Open the published page in a private window to test; the editor preview doesn't run footer code. The first time you send, the widget asks for your name and email, the way it will ask your client. Nobody needs an account.

4Send the link to your client

Send the client the page address and tell them to click Feedback in the corner. That's all they need.

Every comment is pinned to the element they clicked and arrives with their browser and screen size, so "the button looks wrong" comes with the page as they saw it.

What happens next

Each comment is checked against the scope you agreed with the client. The ones that go beyond it are flagged privately, and you can bundle them into a priced change request your client approves from a link.

Questions

Do my clients need a login?

No. They click Feedback on the site, pin a comment and type their name and email the first time. That's it.

Will it slow the site down?

The line loads after the page, and the part that captures the page snapshot only loads when someone sends feedback.

Does it work on blog posts and landing pages?

Site Footer HTML applies to the pages on that domain. Check one blog post after saving; HubSpot has separate settings for some content types.

How do I remove it after launch?

Delete the line where you added it and publish. The feedback you collected stays in your dashboard.
